Enjoy a short drive through the rolling hills of Dodgeville to this unique establishment.
The Pleasant Ridge Bar & Grill is located on the backside of Governor Dodge State Park,
at the corner of Z & ZZ. Built in 1908 as a general store, it now offers a relaxing place
for a bite and a local brew.
Owner Charley Roll minds the store, as he has for the past 20 years. The fare is simple
bar food with fresh, local, ingredients. Occasionally you can smell the smoker wafting
through the valley. There could be a prime rib, pork ribs, or a brisket on the menu
for the week (check out our posts on FB for food specials).
In 1908, when a trip to town was a four-hour journey by horse, the store was the
purveyor of everything from fresh ground coffee to 10-penny nails.
Some locals still recollect a gas pump out front. Mainly, it was the hub of
neighborhood life, with endless card games of euchre or sheep head played
around a table in the center of the store. The Pleasant Ridge Store of today remains
as much at the heart of this rural neighborhood as its predecessors on this spot.
